2 in a Row for Rayners Lane Taekwon-Do Academy at the English Opens Championships, 2018

Students from Rayners Lane Taekwon-Do Academy repeated their success from last year, by once again winning the 'Best Overall School' at the English Open Taekwon-Do Championships, held in St. Albans and attended by 48 clubs from around the UK.

Between the 15 students who enter, most of who were first timers or had limited competition experience, the squad, who was also devoid of senior black belt grades due to an impending grading the following weekend, managed to win 10 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 8 bronze medals, which including an junior team, winning the 'Team Patterns' event and the older teenage team, winning silver in the teens & adult 'Team Patterns'.

The medals were won across the board in all elements of the art, including patterns, sparring and special technique against many great students from the other clubs. Even the students who didn't win medals did well, as they often found themselves against taller opponents, but were not out-classed and still represented their Academy well.
